Fabulous Start to Open Studios!

Last night the Cromer Art Trail held a Private Viewing of  our Taster Exhibition for Open Studios at The Garden House.  I had a lovely time mingling with the artists and guests including the Cromer Mayor in his chains of office and a lovely lady who runs a local art group, who invited me to demonstrate.  My highlight of the evening was selling my latest and largest-to-date studio painting Candy, Cromer Beach. It was sold to a couple who live on Cliff Drive which is visible along the top of the painting.  I recently gave up part-time employment (again) which has been a bit of a worry and this is just the encouragement I needed!

Candy, Cromer Beach. oil on board 48 x 75 cm.  SOLD!
The exhibition continues until next Sunday!
During the exhibition Cromer Art Trail Artists Demonstrations are taking place in the gallery and this Friday I'll be demonstrating plein-air painting on nearby Cromer Pier.  I'll be there come rain or shine so come and watch and please don't be afraid to distract me if you'd like to chat. These are free to view and Joy and Gita are very talented so why not make a day of it?

My First Limited Edition Prints!

I'm taking part in Norfolk and Norwich Open Studios next month and have joined the Cromer Art Trail. This will be my first Open Studios experience, when I'll have my home open to the public. Joining an Art Trail is beneficial for many reasons and one I've already gained from is to learn.  The group, including well-established artists have a wealth of knowledge between them and through their advice I've learned how to produce prints of my paintings.  My high quality, fade resistant prints are locally made and my mount board and cello bags come from Jackson's Art Supplies.  I invested in a Logan 440-1 mount cutter so I can save money by making my own mounts.  I'm feeling quite pleased with myself for completing my first framed and bagged prints ready for sale.  Framed prints will be on show at The Garden House Gallery Cromer Art Trail Taster Exhibition, which starts Friday 28th April. During Open Studios they'll be spread among our Art Trail recommended venues for refreshments (see link) and my bagged prints will be available from home.

Bring me Sunshine! Northrepps from Hungry Hill

I was in my element painting in the fields of Norfolk today!  I came across this spot in Sidestrand, Norfolk a couple of weeks ago whilst walking my dog and couldn't wait to escape there with my pochade box.  This was my first attempt at painting a field of rape and it was an absolute joy.  When an exhausted middle aged couple cycled slowly past me on Hungry Hill, the man asked if I'd caught them in the painting, I replied "No, you were too quick!"

Candy, Cromer Beach

Relieved to have finished this studio piece just in time for the Caper Art and Craft "Boats and Bits" exhibition which runs from Friday 14th to Sunday 23rd April at the Garden House Gallery in Cromer.  It's a group exhibition by a selection of members of Caper Art and Craft, so it will be interesting to see how the theme "boats and bits" gets interpreted.  As you can see, I couldn't have taken it more literally, but that's me!  Cromer beach is full of boats which are pulled into the sea by tractors to catch the famous Cromer crab.
